Short term actions – Years 4 – 6 (2016 – 2020)

Status

Identify priority project/s to optimise environmental sustainability benefits for the centre and develop a project proposal/s for implementation

  • LED Lights installed throughout the facility
  • Air handling systems upgraded to more efficient models
  • Pool pumps installed with energy efficient Variable Speed Drives

Develop a program for increased participation in the learn to swim program

  • Learn to swim classes available to students have increased by 15% over the last 3 years. The program now has over 200 classes per week.
  • Introduction of Sunday classes.
  • Introduction of a second lesson discount.

Increase opportunities for participation in aqua exercise classes

  • Increased pool space allocated to aqua classes.

Undertake a pilot project for the outdoor pool over the 2013/14 season to increase daily operating hours and to lengthen the operating season

  • Trial completed however heating and water costs were significantly higher than anticipated.

Develop a consolidated fee schedule for the centre, including proposals for abolition of the general entry fee and implementation of concessionary and off peak pricing from the 2014/15 Budget onwards

  • New fee schedule introduced, including concessionary and off peak discounts.

 

Medium term actions – Years – 7 - 10 (2021 – 2024)

Investigate opportunities for alternative models of operation for the crèche

Increase opportunities for participation in older adult and rehabilitation programs

Implement the Watch around Water program at the centre

Investigate options to increase capacity of the indoor water spaces

Undertake renewal works for the outdoor 50m pool including replacement of the pool shell, installation of wet deck and plant replacement

Develop outdoor facilities for young people with options including a half-court basketball court, skating area etc

Develop a project proposal to increase space for health and fitness facilities including design, costs and business case

Develop a project proposal to provide dedicated warm water space, including design, costs and business case
